Do you take notes about the book you are reading as you read?

I only really do this for non-fiction books. Sometimes I take pictures of quotes that really stick out to me. One of these days I will actually capture these quotes and compile them into one place.

Maybe I should be writing notes while I read a book. I do go through times where a book really makes me pause and I think about the contents for a good couple minutes. It’s hard to do this though because most of the time, I read books when I’m on the train. Whenever I’m on the train, I never get a seat so I’m always standing. I guess I could take notes on my phone instead.

For example, I was listening to an audiobook of Virginia Wool’s Mrs. Dalloway on the train and there were so many passages that just made me drift into wonderland. I haven’t finished reading it yet (at the time of writing this) but I already know that this might be a book that will resonate with me. It would be nice to capture those thoughts in a timely manner.

Do you subscribe to any book subscription boxes?

Nope! I don’t like spending money to take a chance on a book. These days I just go to the library so I don’t have to risk my money on a book I might not like. So subscription boxes are definitely something that I am not interested in at all. Too risky. My tastes are also very particulaor. I tend to stick to authors I know and I’m mostly focused on reading classics or well known and well revered books rather than anything new right now.

Do you do collaborations with brands or other bloggers? Which collaboration was your favorite and why?

Nope. Once I interviewed a blogger, Graeme Inge, a software engineer and author. Does that count as a collaboration? Other than that, I usually stick to my own bubble. While I think collaborations must be fun, usually for people who don’t know the people involved in the collaboration it can be a little dry. Depending on the topic, of course, it can be done well. I think Q&A or interview type collaborations are what I prefer. What other ways are there to collaborate?

Recommend one horror novel for nonhorror readers.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. I can only say that because that’s the only horror novel that I’ve ever read. But it’s a classic for a reason. It’s also interesting how the original story is as there’s been so many interpretations and spin offs. I really enjoyed it and Shelley is a wonderful author. I think it’s the right amount of “kinda horror but not really horror.” In those times, the concept of reanimating a human body would be horrific. Unfortunately now the idea doesn’t seem so extreme. Try to read it in the eyes of someone who has never heard of zombies before!

If you were to dress up as a literary figure {author or character} for Halloween, who would it be?

Hmm… That’s a good question. I would totally dress up as Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. I don’t think I could pull off the red hair though. It might be weird seeing an asian Anne but the Japanese really like Anne so it must have been done before, right? I just don’t know how recognizable Anne would be. I might get mistaken for Pipi Longstocking or the Wendy’s mascot.

I think it would be super cool to dress up as any Austen or Bronte character. It’s a little disheartening because those characters don’t really have distinguishing physical characteristics that would make you go, “Oh, you’re dressed up as Jane Eyre!” I do adore the 18th and 19th century fashion though and I think it would be a bunch of fun to dress up as someone from those times. I think if I were handing out the candy the kids would just see me dressed up as someone from a long time ago.
