What’s your proudest blogging milestone or achievement?

I think the fact that I’ve had a blog for so long is an achievement. I’ve been blogging since 2007, so I’ve been blogging for over ten years now. I remember blogging on a platform called Mibba. Mibba was a creative writing website where I would read and post fan-fiction. They had a separate section of the site dedicated to blogging. A lot of my blog posts from Mibba were super cringy but I still like keeping them around for posterity’s sake.

Admittedly, I go in and out of blogging quite a lot. So it hasn’t been a consistent eleven years. I think my longest break from blogging was from April 2008 to June 2009, which is over a year. I can’t remember exactly why. Going back through my Mibba account, however, I see a lot of posts that I failed to bring over to this website. Now I’m debating whether or not I should import them… I feel really embarrassed reading some of these posts but they were a part of my past. I’d rather not forget them. I will have to add that to my to-do list.

Does a cluttered blog have you not returning? By cluttered I mean too many columns, small type, too many photos, difficult to follow, etc.

Interestingly, I rarely visit blogs anymore. I only ever really visit a blog when a blog I am subscribed to pops up on my RSS reader and I feel compelled to comment on it. That being said, many of the blogs I regularly follow aren’t that cluttered.

Cluttered blogs in general, definitely do turn me off. Especially when I see that a blog has a tag cloud. I thoroughly dislike tag clouds. They don’t look pretty if they are sitting on a sidebar. I don’t really care if you blog about “cats” the most. I just want to see what your tags are! Even then, I rarely look at tags in the first place. I feel like a lot of things that are on sidebars are mostly for the owner and not the audience. I say this even though I have similar things on my sidebar.

I also have no idea why small type is seen as an aesthetic thing nowadays. It’s so hard to read! I’m not that old but surely I’m not the only one having a hard time reading small font? Thank goodness for CTRL +/-.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, which ONE book could you not live without?

OH MAN. This is such a hard question. Would I bring my favourite book, Vilette by Charlotte Brontë? I’ve only read it once, I’m not sure I could read it more than a couple of times. There are very few books that I have read more than once. Maybe I would bring a super long book or a book that contains several volumes in one. I really don’t know.

If I were to be stranded on a deserted island, I think my main focus would be to survive. Would I even have any time to read? I would be too busy trying to find food or build shelter. But maybe if I’ve lost hope, it would be good to die reading a book.

So. What would be the last book that I would read? In that case, I think I would bring along Vilette. It’s a bittersweet book that touches me so deeply. I would love to read it on my deathbed.

Do you have an Instagram account? If so, do you only follow book folks?

I do have an Instagram account! Shameless plug, @edelgraceme.

The people I follow are usually my friends. Sometimes I follow some comic artists because I enjoy some humor every now and then. I also follow a lot of cosplayers because I am so enamored by their talent and their costumes and honestly they are all so cute.

I don’t think I will start to follow book folks. At a certain point, it can get a little too obvious that people are getting sponsored for posts. There are also way too many books out there and I cannot wrap my head around all the new books that are coming out and are being reviewed. For the most part, I know the kind of books I want to read and some random stranger on the Internet will not. Also, I just can’t add more books to my to-read list… There’s just too many of them… So many books, so little time!

For all of you worker bees out there! How do you balance having a day job/career and managing your blog at night? Is it hard or easy to do, and what do people in your work life think of your blogs?

I am unemployed. 🙃
