Do you listen to music while you are writing your blog posts? If so, what genre of music do you listen to?

Indeed I do! I could not begin to list the genres of music that I listen to. There are many and they are widespread. I wouldn’t say I listen to everything. But I think almost every genre must have something that can appeal to many different people, regardless of their tastes. For example, everyone loves to hate on country. But I totally like listening to country Taylor Swift or some Martina McBride songs. In my city, there is a big stampede roadshow every year and country music plays around the city for like two weeks straight. I love it!

Another genre that people seem to not like is opera. I’m definitely not an avid fan but like, there are people out there who like Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye” and/or Phantom of the Opera! There’s pretty accessible “opera.”

But in general, I love my very wide genre of “rock.” This extends to heavy metal, alternative, indie, prog, pop-rock, post-hardcore, emo, screamo, etc. I love all things rock! Maybe I just like how aggressive it is. I’m not sure why I love rock so much.

Do you tend to visit the same blogs each week but also try to look for new blogs?

No, I try to keep the amount of blogs that I follow to a minimum. At the moment, I am subscribed to about maybe four blogs. They don’t post weekly (more like bi-weekly or once a month) so I don’t visit them that often. I just wait until I see a post on my RSS feed and then I go check them out. Sometimes I think I should go look for new blogs but that just means more time spent reading. If I do stumble across a blog that is interesting to me, I’d probably read it, however.

If you could travel back in time to purchase the first printing of a specific novel, what book would that be?

AH. This is such a good question. My first instict was Villette. I have no idea what the first printing was like but I would love be able to get my hands on one. It doesn’t even have to be pretty. Villette is one of my favourite novels. It would just perfect my collection if I could have an early edition of the book. In reality though, I don’t care much about printings or editions. Unless they are pretty. Kinda contradictory to what I just wrote but I wouldn’t really go out of my way to buy different editions. Unless they’re Villette.

You meet an interesting person of the opposite sex at a club. Suddenly, they start acting as if they’re a character in a novel you’ve read, and they are firmly convinced that they ARE that character. First, which character is it, and second, how do you react?

I’m so bad with hypotheticals. I’m… Not sure? First thing out of the way, I truly do not like most male characters. There are many male characters that just make me groan and roll my eyes. I guess the same could be said for female characters but I feel like I side with female characters more. I also have never been to a club before, I only have preconceptions of what a club is really like.

Let’s take a male character from a book I’m reading right now (at the time of writing this), Septimus from Mrs. Dalloway. He is a veteran with PTSD. Truth be told, I haven’t that far into the book yet but I imagine him as a panicky, easy to anger, yet withdrawn man. He doesn’t talk much and spends most of his time at the club in quiet contemplation. A club is definitely not the best place for a man like this.

I guess I would just leave him be. Or join him. I don’t think I’m the type of person to thrive in a club either. I’d just nurse a drink and contemplate why I’m in a club.

Do you take notes about the book you are reading as you read?

I only really do this for non-fiction books. Sometimes I take pictures of quotes that really stick out to me. One of these days I will actually capture these quotes and compile them into one place.

Maybe I should be writing notes while I read a book. I do go through times where a book really makes me pause and I think about the contents for a good couple minutes. It’s hard to do this though because most of the time, I read books when I’m on the train. Whenever I’m on the train, I never get a seat so I’m always standing. I guess I could take notes on my phone instead.

For example, I was listening to an audiobook of Virginia Wool’s Mrs. Dalloway on the train and there were so many passages that just made me drift into wonderland. I haven’t finished reading it yet (at the time of writing this) but I already know that this might be a book that will resonate with me. It would be nice to capture those thoughts in a timely manner.
